Speech, Soul and Song

Just today I was speaking to one of my friends on how some artists have this gift in being able to rip their soul out and lay it before their audience; bare, dripping in emotion through the medium of music.
It just hits you so hard.

I had found these two gems of songs with Mandy's help. With a stroke of luck, I even had the chance to hear my best friend sing Gravity live. I AM YOUR FAN WOOHOO!
Anyhow, I have to say that man, is Sara Bareilles heavily underrated. She's so honest and raw. Unfortunately she isn't terribly popular here from what I understand, which hopefully can change for we always need such brilliant artists around.

The first song Gravity often throws people off, since we tend to have John Mayer's guitar playing at the very mention of the title. His song is awesome too by the way (also featured in the previous playlist), although personally I would think her lyrics would triumph his by a very small margin. She speaks of entrapment, being pulled down into the very thing she knows she should no longer want any more. Ugh the feels.

Bright lights and Cityscapes is a bit of a surprise though. It's the only song I felt I could really relate to in a terribly long time. I mean most songs speak of wanting to possess the love of another, lamenting their loss in a one-sided affair and although many are beautiful, there also happen to be many more that can come across as a little too self-centred. "Why don't you love me, I don't need you anyway, well your loss" type of songs - you get the drift. Don't get me wrong; I have nothing against the artists/music. This song however just feels a little more realistic. Essentially, I interpret it to say:

I love you, you love her, but I'll just be here loving you without asking for anything back in hope that you would be happy. If you would turn around, I'll always be here waiting for you.

Yeah I guess that will be my kind of love songs.

I wound up choosing these two songs for I'm beginning to see more dry souls, with their dead eyes set deep in overworked minds, wandering about. Maybe it's because it's hell month here in school. Regardless, I know I can't always reach out to everyone as much as I would like to, so I figured I'd give the next best thing.

We're all going to have heartaches from time to time. It may be unrequited love, lost hope, crushed expectations in your work, effort unrewarded, anxiety, fatigue and whatever else that plagues the human race.
There are some who leave the battles in their lives wounded, hardened and cold. I hope that somehow those reading this that are currently having your own share of hard times can find refuge in the stable things in your lives, draw positivity within yourself to stay tender and kind. You are stronger than you think.

The next few days I'll be updating back with some other awesome mixes I've managed to get my paws on with the help of many wonderfully informed friends. Let's all hope that things will look a little brighter then because the songs I have in mind are definitely more upbeat.

I just hope that these two songs speak to you, sing for you and ultimately help to heal the cracks in the soul as they did for me.

All the best everyone; every winter will eventually draw to an end for summer to come around.
