Beauty and the lip(stick)

Why hello there again everyone (especially to Jana haha hello once more!).
Here's the second instalment to my first post here, where I attempt to take you through how to pick some lip colours for yourself!

I realised that I had very foolishly forgotten to tell you guys all bout cool tones vs warm tones in makeup or in clothing for that matter, and I think you will find a pretty comprehensive guide here

Basically, these undertones in your skin determine which colours you look best in, which will be rather helpful in allowing you to see which look the most natural and flattering for you especially in makeup.

Of course you can work around it, but for convenience's sake I tend to stick to what my skin tone looks best in.
Do take the test and determine which tone you are to know what you best suited for (:

For reference, I'm a pale fair cool toned girl, hence my lippies generally gravitate towards blue toned pinks that look better on me, or so I convince myself so haha.

Lipsticks are my favourite of the lot, since I prefer to have something to sit on my lips nicely rather than cling to them.

Pros:
More available finishes commonly found e.g completely matte lipstick is easier to find than matte glosses
More colours, generally I find at least
Not as sticky as glosses
May be more natural than shiny glosses

Cons:
Can break easily in their tubes if you're a godzilla like me
May melt if you don't care for them properly

Finishes:
Creme (creamy, saturated colour)
Frost (sort of a shine/shimmer finish)
Satin (as the name suggests, and semi matte)
Glaze (less pigmented, sheen)
Matte
Sheer
Lustre (a slick sort of finish)

Alright and moving on to the ones I've been using recently!

Again these are not all my lipsticks for I have like a good 4 lipsticks in my reserves when I finish these? I know I'm hopeless. I'm sorry.

GROUP SHOT YES YES WOOHOO.

From left: Too Cool for School Dinoplatz Lost Identity Lip Crayon in Lost in Dinoplatz, Etude House limited edition Minnie Lipstick in Pink, Innisfree Colour Glow Lipstick in #3 French Rose, Etude House Princess Etoinette Crystal Shine Lips in PPK001, Rimmel Kate Lasting Finish - Spring Collection Lipstick in #19.

Oh my goodness they have incredibly long names.

Too Cool for School Dinoplatz Lost Identity Lip Crayon in Lost in Dinoplatz

WHAT A MOUTHFUL.
I usually go by the "green crayon" if anything. Clearly I am less creative than the Koreans.

Anyhow this was my Christmas gift from my best fashion guru, none other than Mandy herself. This is supposedly a cross between a lip balm and a lip tint from the Korean Cosmetics brand. It's pretty moisturising alright, and it's main selling point is that it will change colour to suit your lips.

Well it sounded very cool to me in concept, but sadly I find that such colour changing products never quite work for me. Maybe my lips aren't of the right type but somehow it ends up being this very bright fuchsia on me? I'm all for bright pinks but this has this almost purple tinge to it, which somehow doesn't do me many favours.

Having that said however, it does boast a pretty convenient, cool concept and have I mentioned that you can twist the product out? I just love how I don't have to sharpen it.
It is moist and very comfortable to wear, plus not having to touch up is a great point too. I wear this in much thinner coats to stop my lips from being a purple disaster.
The scent is rather pleasant too - slightly fruity, but not too overpowering.

If colour-changing products work well on you, I would recommend this since the formula is rather impressive. It's just a pity that quite literally, this product and I don't share chemistry.

Purplish, as you can see.

You can purchase these from the Too Cool for School outlet here in Singapore at Far East Plaza.

Etude House limited edition Minnie Lipstick in Pink

This I nicked off qoo10, where I regularly purchase my fix of korean cosmetics hehe. This was from the limited release of Minnie Collection with Etude, and as far as I know this was exclusive to Korea. See why I shop online now?

The online beauty community was raving about this, and it's easy to see why. It's fairly moisturising, semi-matte on me, terribly pigmented and affordable. The packaging is pretty adorable too. They had red too, which was a stunning shade but a tad too warm for my liking so I stuck to this bubblegum pink. Boy this is one hot pink shade. I love it for it works fairly well in tinting my lips at the same time, and I just need to dab it on to make people think my of very pale lips as alive.
Etude does pretty awesome lippies I find.

Fair girls, this will work well for you. In fact, it'll work better with medium tones too - this will be a nice vivid colour. You will have to be careful too, you can overdo it.

Yeah this was one swipe. Pretty intense huh.
It's brighter and cooler in tone. My apologies the evening sun makes it look warmer than usual.

This is when I dab it on. As you can see it does give off a "My lips but better" if you do it really slightly.
Yeah I've been using it for quite a while and it's only at the 3/4 mark. Good deal.

Highly recommend this one.

You can get the red  here,  for unfortunately the pink seems all sold out for now ):

Innisfree Colour Glow Lipstick in #3 French Rose

This is one of my favourites! Okay so first of all, I am a huge sucker for Innisfree products since Yoona (my eternal Korean Girl Crush) of SNSD was their spokesperson for quite a while. They also have a wonderful philosophy of eco-friendly products and have half a foot in the organic makeup market whilst still being incredibly affordable.
Plus, their products work amazing. Both skincare and makeup.
I'll do a brand focus someday but honestly, you need to try this brand.

This was the 2013 autumn collection, and they released a lot of dark colours (which I am still lemming over and may just purchase on whim). I stuck to a neutral one, which would be this.
Innisfree boasts that this is a moustrising, glossier sort of finish with a rich pigment.
By george were they right.

This is by far the most comfortable lipstick I own, even better than Elizabeth Arden. Yes I'll talk about that another day. It glides on like silk, smells like homely fresh herb gardens (in a good way) and has this soft finish without looking sloppy or too shiny.
HOW CAN YOU NOT ADORE THIS.

I was concerned that it would be a little too soft and would break, but the packaging turned out to be pretty hardy. Nonetheless I don't bring this around with me just in case.

One con however is that it would fade quicker than the previous two since it's more moisturising. You will need to touch up after a meal or 3 hours.

Colour wise I find it a bit warm for me, for somehow it turns out a lot more coral rather than pink on my lips. I don't care however I just wear it and balance it out with some other lipstick, lip concealer or something else on my face.

You need this if you love moisturising lippies like me.

You can get them from Innisfree outlets in Singapore at Plaza Singapura or Takashimaya.
Innisfree coming to Singapore is the best thing ever. You may also want to know that it is one of the rare few brands that hardly marks up their prices from the original Korean ones.
Very worth it guys.
They also have phenomenal nail polishes. I don't even like nail polish.
Alright the fan girl in me will shut up now.

Etude House Princess Etoinette Crystal Shine Lips in PPK001

This is one of the much older versions of the Princess Etoniette Collection that Etude released way back in what, 2012 I think?
In fact it may be slowly phased out now that they have a newer version of the collection so you may want to get your paws on these if you like what you see. Good news also is that I spied other colours of this collection out on the sales rack; act fast!

Anyway the collection had a whole princessy feel to it whereby they released heart shaped blusher and highlighter, all decked in pink and other fancy lettering.
Naturally the lipsticks followed suit as you can see from the packaging, which somehow I find myself liking. I know I can be surprisingly girly at times.

PPK001 is a rather pale, blue based sort of pink. It's one of the sheerest of the lot, and has a fair amount of shimmer. I'm not a fan of the shimmer for it comes in large chunks of glitter to be precise, which makes it look a tad cheap. Thankfully it works fine on the lips so it doesn't look too gaudy.

I was a little disappointed: I had expected more.  I reckon it goes well for a casual natural look, although again I can't pile it on since it may wash me out a bit if I have nothing but a lippie.

Usually I combine this with the Rimmel Kate lipstick for a perfect shade of natural, which I love.
Overall it's not bad, but not a favourite.
You can buy this at any Etude House Outlet here.

Rimmel Kate Lasting Finish - Spring Collection Lipstick in #19

This was a sort of impulse purchase. I read so much off English beauty blogs and beauty gurus such as Zoella and Tanya Burr that I felt impelled to try Rimmel's Kate lipsticks at least once.

Boy that was a great move.

This is creamy, smooth, yet not too matte, and packs one heck of a colour. It's one of the darkest shades I have but I love that this pinkish-brown hue helps me to mature so I no longer look 14 without looking like a kid desperately trying to play dress-up either.
It is amazingly comfortable to wear, sits like a dream, stays relatively well at 6 hours and this is a wonderful everyday work colour I would expect for ladies of all ages.

Pretty timeless.

Best part?
It smells like Nerds Candy oh my goodness I'm in love.

It is also very affordable.
Free shipping from FeelUnique too. I adore UK makeup now bring me there.

You can get it here

There you go: it looks pretty natural when mixed!
Thank you so much for reading guys, I will do my best not to get too excited at the next beauty review.
Have a great week ahead!

Love,
Brendy
