Just a couple of weeks back a senior of mine asked me about lipsticks since word got out that I am a lipstick hoarder (hi Jana!).
Well, I am here to officially announce that it is true. I am not only a lipstick hoarder - I am a full blown lip product freak.
In fact, as of now I have more than 10 lip products I use in rotation. This does not take into consideration other lip products that I have lying around, stowed away specially for when I finally get to finish these 10 or so first. Mandy and all my other friends have begged me to stop buying but for some reason I just gravitate towards lip makeup.
I mean come on, it's the easiest. I don't put anything on my face and just slap something on my mouth and ta-dah, I look significantly alive. This is possibly because I have this naturally pale cast to my face and without colour I honestly resemble a hybrid of a marshmallow zombie. Doesn't sound too threatening but it's unpleasant to see nonetheless. Plus it helps that lipstick (or stains or balms or gloss- what have you) is the easiest to apply. Not to mention that it also is the easiest to remove.
Yes I am also a bum. Now do you see the appeal of this? Just say yes okay wonderful we agree.
I apologise for the ramble.
What I meant to say is, my collection is so vast and frightening that I'll do a three part series on the lip products I use the most:
1. Glosses
2. Lipsticks
3. Bases and Stains
So as not to scare all of you, mainly. Subsequently I'll review my other lip items one by one so you guys can contemplate on buying them since most of my makeup is not found in Singapore. Have I mentioned that I am also an online shoppaholic?
Clearly I have very uninteresting hobbies.
Alright so getting down right to it!
I'll try to explain all I know of the products so everyone who's not too sure on what they want can get a rough idea. I'm not professional in the least, but I hope my bad hoarding habits and the consequent information I gathered can be of some use to you (:
I chose glosses first since well I have the least of these. Actually not really but significantly fewer.
They basically differ from lipsticks in that they are supposedly more hydrating and have a much glossier finish, as the name suggests. So think of a shinier, more moist looking lip. Usually glosses can make you look a little younger, the extent depending on your shade. They definitely however add some sort of class, glamour and take off the years as compared to say, a matte lipstick.
Personally however I find glosses a tad annoying because they usually are very sticky and when the wind blows your hair may get stuck to it upon touching your mouth. They also take a while to get used to wearing - some aren't exactly second skin in nature.
So basically,
Pros:
More hydrating
Shinier Finish, typically
Moist Finish
Can make you look younger / more polished
Cons:
Sticky
Finishes:
Translucent
Opaque
Glittered
Metallic
So say hello to my first three glosses!
It's Skin Shine Gloss in Lady Pink
I got from Japan.
It's skin is actually from Korea surprisingly, and it has this disarmingly adorable packaging complete with a baby face and all.
It's a translucent gloss with an almost peachy finish, although technically it will still classify as a light pink. It just leans towards the peachier side. The glitter in this is pretty fine so it's not too shimmery, although it is obvious that your lips have an additional sheen to them.
I typically use this when I feel like I want something more subtle or I just want some shine when my eyes have some drama going on.
Usually when your eye makeup is a bit heavier you have a lighter or nude coloured lip to balance it out.
Well, it's alright. Decent, nothing to shout about. Especially when the artificial perfume smell is overpowering. Overall I do like it and I use it often since the colour is nice. It's just well, that smell.
You can get this from qoo10 here.
Maquillage (Shiseido) Essence Unlimited Rouge in PK397
I also got this in Japan last year with Mandy, so I'm unsure if Maquillage has phased this out yet for it appears to be available still on the Singapore webpage here. If you'd like you can always pop by the store to ask too.
It's a pink gloss with again some peachy undertones, with the most sophisticated shimmer I've seen yet so it literally makes your lips look like they're glowing and busking in some sort of ethereal shine. My photos unfortunately don't do it justice on my hand - I'll try my luck when my lips get less cracked.
It has turned out to be one of my favourites. Used on its own it initially bugged me quite a bit for it was the stickiest thing around. Nope not comfortable to wear. When used with lip balm or lipstick as a base however it performed beautifully and it stays.
Boy does it stay. I would give a word of warning to pale girls with cool undertones like me to lay easy on the layering though. I do find that too much can wash me out a little.
In terms of quality however this is one to get. More on the expensive side, I know. In the right colour however you'll find it worth it.
You can buy them at any Maquillage outlets listed here.
Malibu Pink Gloss
This is the 300 yen gloss I nicked off the shelves last minute. That's about what $5 SGD back then? Talk about cheap thrill haha.
Unfortunately in spite of my best googling efforts I have no clue what company this brand belongs to.
So I'm more or less stuck with this little bit of information since the chunk of faded Japanese text on the bottle remains foreign to me. Sorry guys.
This is a hotter, barbie pink gloss with no shimmer, although it's plenty glossy alright. I know you can't purchase the exact same one that I do, but word of advice to people with similar skin tones as me?
GET BARBIE PINK IT WILL WORK VERY WELL FOR YOU.
Brightens up your whole face. I kid you not.
On lazy days I don't even layer my lip products I just put this on and I'm out.
Either that or any other brighter pinks I have, which you guys will get to see soon.
Similar ones would be Picnic in the Park by Tanya Burr here. Shipping is free from the UK so just shop away haha.
I have bought one of her glosses in another colour to try since there have been nothing but glowing reviews of the Youtube Sensation's line, but I've yet to break it out yet. When I do I'll be sure to tell you guys all about it. If I like it, I'll also be sure to join you guys in buying Picnic in the Park haha.

Also swatched on a white base for a better colour representation.
Alright that's all for glosses today, you'll be hearing from me soon. Have a wonderful week, everybody!
Love,
Brendy
