Lately I was very tempted by all the instagramming on this drugstore brand, so as usual, I went ahead and bought some things from Colourpop.
As of now, I have 3 lippies, 4 eyeshadows and 2 blushers (one slated to sell anyway) so yes, I may be partially addicted.
So Colourpop is one of the new makeup indie brands that have exploded on the sceene recently, and they've been touted as one of the strongest contenders in the drugstore brand considering how pigmented their stuff is at a mere 5 USD. Additional perks include nice product scents and cruelty free makeup! Pretty awesome huh?
Now having that said honestly as Singaporeans who have no access to direct shipping (Asian woes), Colourpop becomes a lot less affordable since we have to go through double shipping fees but hey, $12 for a lipstick or an eyeshadow is still okay. Not as great as $5 - which by the way, Essence and Catrice do sell and they look good!- but it's still better than higher end brands that could offer similar results.
Today we'll just be talking the eye shadows or as they choose to call it, eye pigments. Colourpop's eye pigments have a unique texture to them, sort of like a mousse-to-powder finish. Meaning to say, it's squishy to the touch, but dries as a powder.
Personally I'm all about that idea since it would translate into blendable products with a long lasting finish, which really is what everyone in Singapore needs. I mean, have you guys felt the heat yet?
It'll only take minutes for your makeup to start melting off your face.
I'll elaborate more on how exactly I bought these, but for now let's dive straight into the reviews!
Acorn
Beige pearlised finish with duochrome flashes of silver
Pearlised
This is one of my favourites as I love how it's subtle and yet it still is reflective enough to catch your attention. There is hardly any sparkle at all. If anything, it gives your eye a glow or a sheen instead of blinging it up. It's pretty similar to Girly, the sole difference being that this is slightly more reflective and leans towards a beige undertone whereas Girly has this creamier colour to it.
Girl Crush
Lavender Grey
Matte
This is such a different colour, and while I've yet to wear it I'm rather positive about the looks I can create with this. It's a beautiful cool toned lavender, but at certain angles it does swatch rather grey. Either way I love it and I'm confident that this would make a wonderful crease or even outer third shade. The best part is that it's cool-toned; how hard is it to find cool-toned shadows here? Very.
Bill
Muted plum beige
Matte
This is another crease colour. In the pan it can look rather similar to Girl Crush, as many other bloggers would have mentioned, but again in reality it's a lot more plummy than Girl Crush (is plummy a word?). It swatches warmer on me somehow - I can see the redness in it but it's not too crazy, so that's a great thing. I typically wear this as a crease shade paired with Girly for a lazy work makeup look, and if I'm up to it, I do throw in an outer third colour. If you're not up for that, I find that Bill also doubles up as an eye contouring shade of sorts if you layer more of it. Not the same as a dark colour, but it does a decent job.
Also, this shade lasts pretty long - about 6-7 hours on me.
Girly
Cream coloured vanilla with a hint of pink and gold
Pearlised
This was the very first shade I bought that got me hooked. As you can see I have hit pan already, which is honestly surprising given how infrequently I wear eyeshadow. Which brings me to the point that Colourpop may not be as generous in portion size, just a warning. Then again maybe it's because I tend to pile on the shinier lighter shades on my eye rather than the dark ones. Either way, be sure to check the weight out before you purchase.
This baby is incredibly indistinct - you need to look closely at your own face to see the effect. It's great as a highlighter too for that very reason, especially if you prefer a quiet glow as opposed to a loud disco-ball sort of style. I love how long this lasts as well. After the whole day, it literally still shines on my face without any primer. So yes, worth your money.
If you're after the wet look or the bling bling look, you should take a look at their metallic finishes instead because this is so subtle that it is honestly hard to see.
From fist inwards - Girly, Acorn, Bill, Girl Crush.
Tried to take it a bit out of focus so you can see the shine that the first two provide!
I'll be reviewing the rest of my Colourpop stuff in days to come, together with some Makeupgeek blushes and hopefully even some baking things as we go along! (:
Mandy and I are excited to finally kickstart this place again since we have been swallowed up by school.
WHERE TO PURCHASE
I got mine off Carousell, where I find the cheapest things. I hopped from seller to seller depending on my needs, but here are the few I do recommend since I have dealt with them before -
MUDepartment
They ship things really fast and better yet, it's all instocks so you don't have to wait! They also reply fast so that's what I love since I am an OCD buyer. They have one of the most affordable prices around at $12 per eyeshadow and lippie, plus they stock a lot of Makeupgeek stuff that I am currently resisting, so you should really check them out here.
Themakeupbag
The cheapest Colourpop pre-order I could find on Carousell - $12 for each eyeshadow and lippie. They offer free shipping for 4 items and above, but they can be very slow to reply in verifying payment. I often found myself chasing for updates. Still reliable though. They're good if you want something that people with instocks don't have. Be prepared to wait for a month or more for your pre-orders!
Breadandegg
She also has the cheapest pre-orders on Carousell, but she isn't taking orders all the time. She charges $10.80 per eyeshadow and lippie so that;s really the best price you can find, again, provided that she's actually holding a pre-order at the time you want it. We've been talking a lot over Carousell about our loots so rest assured she's super nice, efficient and friendly!
WWT
The most expensive of them all at $13.70 per eyeshadow and lippie. However she replies very fast and is also a great seller who constantly updates you, so that's a plus. If you want additional reassurance, you can place an order with her. Personally I feel that the above sellers are all reliable so just based on pricing, I would go with others.
And no, please be careful of those who ask you to pay $17 and above for one shadow on Colourpop because as you can see, it is a rip-off.
There you go- hope you guys had fun reading this and if you would like to know more, see a look, or ask questions just drop us a comment (yes we finally figured out how to enable our comment section) or tell us what is your favourite shade! (:
Happy long weekend ahead guys.
