Samba Masala!!

Hey everyone, we hope you've been doing well in the post- Chinese New Year period!

As we had previously mentioned we were pretty buried in work, and I just thought I would share a little on what we have been up to recently.

At least for me, I've been busy preparing for my annual CCA production: I'm currently in one of the few Brazillan Percussion Bands in Singapore called Samba Masala.

Basically we are a group of university students spreading the love of Samba music through our performances, which include both dancing and live music. If that still sounds somewhat ambiguous to you, just think along the lines of street Brazillan swing music and dance and viola! What's so special about Samba Masala is that we also incorporate some spice into our music with the Dhol, which is an Indian drum. Hence the 'Masala'. After all, what is Southeast Asia without diversity, no?

We do lots of regular performances, such as Christmas busking, our own busking programme named Sambatida, gigs for events that want a little hip action and of course, annual concerts.

For our upcoming production however we're doing remarkably different things to push the boundaries of your concepts of rhythm.
There will be body percussion, classroom percussion and dance thrown into our usual mix. These will all be choreographed in a more theatrical style with the help of the massively talented, award-winning dance instructor, Bryan Lee .
Meaning to say, there will be story lines along with our songs to add to the entertainment (:

I just wanted to share this with you guys because it's pretty rare to see Brazillian music of this variety around in our little island. Plus, the special items such as the unconventional percussion showcases are incredible and something that has yet to be performed on a large scale by local artists. Also, our amazing instructors Idham Budiman of Wicked Aura (the established local percussion band), Riduan Zalani (the very famous percussionist who was also mentioned in our PM's speech) will be guest performing.

If you happen to be curious in making the most of your surroundings by slapping chairs and possibly even your own shoulders, this is the show for you!

Oh and since we are known to be music for dancing, you may want to bring your targeted valentine to the show to get things moving long a little.
Just saying, hehe.

Of course, don't just take it from me. Check out our promotion video below, and also we have videos all over youtube for you, albeit the messy audio that doesn't quite capture the glorious strength of the bass drums.
